IT STARTED WITH A BILL.

Last summer, a Bonney Lake dad named Daniel signed his two daughters up for softball camps. The total came to more than a thousand dollars. He paid it, because that is what parents do. But it stuck with him.

There have to be options in between. A girl who cannot afford select ball or private lessons gets her rec season, maybe little league, and that is it. Then school ball tryouts come around and she is standing next to girls who trained all year. She got left behind, and none of it was her fault.

Because around here, the step up meant camps that run into the thousands, private lessons at eighty dollars an hour, and select teams charging four figures a season. Say it plainly: that is ridiculous. No kid should lose the game she loves over a price tag.

SO WE BUILT THE THING THAT WAS MISSING.

That dad is Coach Daniel. Twenty years of coaching, five sports, and a stubborn belief that the development years are the most important years in sports: they are where a kid either falls in love with the game or walks away for good.

Be honest: those years are where it happened for all of us. The first team. The friends you still have. The lessons that stuck long after the scores were forgotten. It is the whole reason we push our own kids toward sports in the first place.

So he formed CoachPilot LLC and started making calls. And people showed up: dedicated volunteers, experienced adults and high school players from area programs, willing to give their summer nights to these girls because they believe what he believes. The school district approved the fields. The insurance got bought. The nets got built in a garage.

Then the families showed up. More than forty girls signed up for the first clinics before a single whistle blew.
